Amundi announces three appointments within the Amundi Institute: Monica Defend, head of Amundi Institute, is appointed to Amundi’s Executive Committee. Mahmood Pradhan joins Amundi as Head of Global Macroeconomics from 2nd January 2023, and Anna Rosenberg joined as Head of Geopolitics on 14th October 2022. They will both report to Monica Defend.

Monica Defend, Head of the Amundi Institute, Member of the Executive Committee, Amundi

Monica has been appointed head of Amundi Institute in February 2022. She leads the creation of engaging and accessible proprietary research that delivers cross-asset thought leadership and investment strategy ideas to internal and external clients. A distinctive feature of her approach is the close collaboration that she has forged with the investment division to generate actionable investment ideas. She is also a board member of Amundi Japan, and a member of the Advisory Boards of Amundi Japan and Amundi Italy.

Monica has led research strategy functions since 2001. Before becoming the head of the Institute, Monica was Global Head of Research, a member of the Global Investment Committee and the Advisory Board at Amundi. She was appointed Deputy Head of Group Research and a member of the Global Investment Committee of Amundi in 2017, and was responsible for defining Amundi’s investment strategy on financial markets. Prior to that, she was Global Head of Asset Allocation Research and previously Head of Quantitative Research at Pioneer Investments. Monica started her career in the investment industry in 1997 following a role as University teaching assistant for the Advanced Econometrics department at Bocconi University.

Monica graduated from Bocconi University (DES). She holds a Masters’ degree in Economics (Bocconi University) and a Masters’ degree in Financial Economics from the London Business School and Bocconi University. She was selected for the UniCredit Young Talents Program and the Management and Banking Academy, obtaining an MBA from the London Business School.

Mahmood Pradhan, Head of Global Macroeconomics, Amundi Institute

Mahmood Pradhan joins the Amundi Institute from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where he was Deputy Director, European Department, heading the IMF’s work on the Euro Area, the Euro Area periphery, and financial sector issues in Europe since 2011.

Prior to this role, Mahmood was Deputy Director, Asia, and Pacific Department overseeing activities in Japan and South East Asia, and Assistant Director, Monetary and Capital Markets Department.

Mahmood also spent 9 years in the asset management industry as an Emerging Market Strategist with Tudor Investment Corporation, Bluecrest Capital Management, and Emerging Market portfolio manager at Wadhwani Asset Management.

Earlier in his career, Mahmood worked at the Bank of England on monetary policy and financial sector issues.

Mahmood holds a Master of Philosophy degree from the London School of Economics.

Anna Rosenberg, Head of Geopolitics, Amundi Institute

Anna Rosenberg joins Amundi from Signum Global Advisors, where she was co-founder and Senior Partner responsible for the firm’s predictive research output focused on Europe.

Before Signum, Anna helped executives at multinational companies adjust their expansion plans across emerging markets to political and economic developments. At Frontier Strategy Group (now FrontierView), Anna also launched and headed the Sub-Saharan Africa research practice and co-created the firm’s macroeconomic forecasting product, for which her department won various awards.

Anna is also a Visiting Scholar at the London Institute of Banking and Finance and a BBC Expert Woman.

Anna is a historian by training and holds an MA from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.
